New in 2024: This is a new group for experienced Kayakers and Canoeists. We will tackle easy water with occasional swifts and paddle for 60 to 90 minutes, then take a rest. The entire paddle may last 3 or 4 hours. We encourage everyone to bring a snack/lunch and lots of water, plus hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a towel. We will look for pleasant places to get out of the kayaks/canoes to eat our snack, swim if desired and relax before we continue to the end.

We plan to kayak and canoe every second Wednesday, weather permitting, from May to September. We will always meet at the location at the start of each paddle. The paddling location will be posted on line and the sign-up email will be sent out a week before with detailed directions, starting time, and meeting place. Space is limited to 6 boats per leader (Liz and Karen). We will be happy to add other co-leaders.

Our scheduled paddles will include The Fishing Islands, Chantry Island, Saugeen River, Robson Lake, Isaac Lake/Boat Lake, Colpoys Bay, Beaver River #2 to #3 or #4 and other locations as decided by the group members as the year progresses.

Ontario Transportation Safety Regulations for canoes and kayaks:

  • All paddlers must have a PFD (for our Group we require PFD's to be worn at all times when on the water)
  • Sound signaling device (pea less whistle)
  • Buoyant throw line (15 m long)
  • Bailer (750 ml min) or hand pump

Note: The Marine Safety Kit available at Canadian Tire would have all the above items except the PFD
