R.O.M.E.O April Breakfast (April 22, 2026)

Fellow ROMEO’s,

Last year's Survey results showed a strong desire to periodically have a late Breakfast event in the same month we also have a lunch meeting. We have chosen April 22 as our first breakfast event, leaving a 2 week gap between gatherings. Georgian Bay Family Restaurant has a room which seats up to 50, allowing us to be seated together. Lunch spots may not always be busy on a Wednesday but the same cannot be said of a breakfast location. Therefore they are less inclined to accept the type of advance booking we make. We look forward to everyone’s feedback on this event and moving forward we will determine if more Breakfasts should be scheduled.

Spring is here, our 2026 activities start a new year, and we are happy to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning members of Casual Dining With Friends. As usual dining groups of 6, 8 or 10 members will be established and of course hosts will be required for those dinners. The role of the host(s) is to provide the venue and the main course for appointed guests. Your guests will provide the accompanying food items according to your request. All guests will provide their beverages of choice.

Just a note of encouragement re: hosting, if you each plan to host 2 times during the year we will usually be able to plan our monthly dinners with ease.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early as the walk starts promptly at 10:00 am.

Kolapore Loop Hike (May 06, 2026)

This hike is on a Wednesday at 10am. Hopefully we can meet afterwards for a coffee at the Ravenna Market.

I will lead this approx 6.5 kms hike which takes about 2 hours. Pace and difficulty will be moderate.

As always, please ensure you have the physical ability to handle the length, difficulty and pace.

Reminders and cancellations are only sent to those who register so please register if joining us in order to receive any changes or cancellations.

Wonderful wilderness; primarily deciduous forest. We will follow the road north to the Bruce Trail, go out on the Bruce, do some "bush whacking", then come back on the Church route of the Kolapore trails. We will periodically stop to admire the spring wildflowers, hopefully red & white Trillium, Trout lily, Jack in the pulpit, and maybe some Harts Tongue fern etc. The terrain is moderate difficulty (no big hills) but LOTS of ups and downs, with some rocky and wet/muddy areas.

Walking poles, hiking boots and water are recommended. Bug spray may be required.

Nottawasaga Model Railway

We have arranged a tour of the Nottawasaga Model Railway.

This is an HO scale model train club operating from the Bygone Days Heritage Museum in Collingwood. The Club has a 20 x 40 foot layout dedicated to the operation of trains that ran from Allendale to Collingwood in the 1950s.

The tour takes roughly 1 to 1 1/2 hours

There is a maximum of 15 people on this tour. However if there is sufficient interest, we will try to book more tours, so please add your name to the waitlist if the event is full.

Please note that they cannot accommodate wheelchairs (the model is too far off the ground to be viewed from a wheelchair).

There is parking onsite.

Our Dining Around Town in May is on Thursday, May 7 at The Falls Inn, Walters Falls. We will be on the main level again this year.

Dinner Cost: $49 plus tax and gratuity. Wine corkage fee: $12.

Registration / Cancellation deadline: Friday, May 1.
No-shows and late cancellations will be charged $49.

Recreational Cycling #1 (May 11, 2026)

We are excited to begin a new season of recreational cycling. Our first ride will be on Monday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. We will meet in the parking lot of the Craigleith Depot, and ride along the Georgian trail toward Collingwood for about 9 km. Then we will turn around and retrace our steps. Don and Mary Ann have invited us to meet at their chalet, just a few minutes from The Depot, for a chat about the Recreational Cycling group with coffee and muffins.

Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Please also bring your Probus ID card with you, as it contains important emergency contact information.

Please note that if this Session needs to be cancelled due to weather a cancellation notice will be sent by 8:00 a.m. on the day.

Money Matters (May 14, 2026)

Money Matters provides a forum for expanding knowledge about financial matters that are important for everyone.

On May 14 @ 1:30 at St. George's Anglican Church we will have our next meeting. This date was originally planned for Angela Yenssen, but she won't be able to present until our August meeting. Instead I will moderate a discussion about new industry groups, including drones, battery technology and quantum computing.

The plan is for me to introduce the particular topic and encourage comments and questions from attendees. Drone production and sales are forecast to grow at better than 25% per annum over the next 3-5 years. Batteries are vastly improved over the last 2 years with dramatically improved lithium ion batteries, hybrid batteries and solid state batteries. Quantum computing is likely up to 5 years away from meaningful revenue, but it's performance is directly linked to the expanding success of AI. We will also have a discussion regarding how our group may broaden our seminars from classic Estate Planning topics.

We aren't requesting any funds for parking as we are fully paid up with the Church for the year. I look forward to seeing you on May 14.

Patti Shales Lefkos, journalist, adventure traveller and best-selling author of Nepal One Day at a Time and Grounded by Granite, has trekked extensively in Nepal. Her non-profit 'Nepal One Day at a Time Society' supports education and home building in post-earthquake Nepal.

Born and raised in Toronto, Patti built a rewarding career as a teacher, educational consultant, administrator, and advocate for inner-city children before studying journalism at Langara College. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Toronto Teachers’ College, Simon Fraser University, and the Wilderness Leadership Program at Capilano University.

Join us for a fun-filled summer picnic at the Stone Tree Golf, Fitness & Banquets Centre, just east of Owen Sound. We’ll be outdoors under a spacious tent where a delicious picnic lunch will be served.

We’ve never been disappointed in a King’s Wharf Theatre production, so join us for another fun musical production from Drayton Entertainment. This feel-good revue encompasses the musical evolution of Nashville becoming the uncontested home of country music. Nashville Music City shines a neon light on the artists and songs that gave the city its name; the hits of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Shania Twain and Taylor Swift plus many others are featured in this toe tapping production.

Five nights and four days in fabled Haida Gwaii. Four days are spent touring the waters around Gwaii Hannas, a protected national park reserve. The tours are by 10-person Zodiac’s on which we will visit this uniquely beautiful area - often called “The Galapagos of Canada”. Travel: Le Petit Train du Nord Cycling Trip (September 13, 2026)

Join us for an 8-day scenic cycling tour along Quebec’s famous Petit Train du Nord, with charming villages, restaurants, microbreweries, and beaches along the way. The tour accommodates 14–24 cyclists, with luggage transferred daily and includes accommodations in lovely inns, breakfasts, one dinner, maps, itinerary, and guide support. A shuttle transfers participants from Saint-Jérôme to Mont-Laurier, where the journey begins with a 44 km loop ride, followed by a four-day ride back to Saint-Jérôme (207 km total) at about 50 km per day, staying inn to inn. Our September DIning Around Town is at Marilynne Restaurant in Markdale. We must have a minimum of 35 members as the restaurant is opening up especially for us.

The meal is served "Family Style". Dinner is $43.00 plus tax & gratuity.
