The Probus Ski Legends was started in the
fall of 1997 by a number of ski enthusiasts from the Blue Mountain Probus
Club. The original premise was that no one should have to ski alone. For
the winter of 1997/1998 Blue Mountain Resort provided meeting space in the
South Base Lodge. From this simple beginning the Ski Legends was expanded
to all twelve Probus Clubs in the Wasaga/Collingwood/Thornbury area. In
addition, partnerships were formed with Skiis & Biikes in Collingwood, the
Toronto Ski Club, Blue Mountain Ski School and Merit Travel. Discounts are
offered to Ski Legends members by these organizations. Working with Nancy
Greene, a special ski package has been offered to Sun Peaks each spring with
40 to 50 Ski Legends members taking part. Other packages have been offered
to Vail, Steamboat, Snowmass and Salt Lake City. Each winter a number of
social events are planned to bring the Ski Legends together. This past
winter we had a Lift Off Party at Toronto Ski Club, an Open House at Skiis &
Biikes, a Dinner Dance and an Apres Ski Luncheon at Toronto Ski Club.
Two newsletters are published each
season, one in August and the other in November. They are circulated at
Probus meetings and by email.
All Legends activities and ski trips are
open to guests but at a slightly higher cost.
Legends is made up of members from eight
different Probus Clubs in the area.
