Book Club - Chapter One

                                Coordinator:  Shelagh Bowden

Chapter One meets at the homes of our members on the second Thursday of each month. The year's books are nominated and selected by the membership each November and December; they are deeply thoughtful, challenging, informative, historic, humorous and absorbing. We have had some truly great reads! The discussion leader manages the meeting, usually starting with a biography of the author and then drawing on the publisher's reader's guides, internet postings or recent newspaper articles as a guide for discussion; but this is a pretty informal group and we all throw in our two-cents worth.

Our meetings start at 1:30 p.m. At about 3:30 we stop for light refreshments and are usually on our way home by 4pm. We take a break over the summer months, July and August, and in December we have Pot Luck lunch to start our meeting. We have found that the optimum attendance at a meeting is between 7 and 10 which we regularly achieve and thus we consider that Chapter One is fully subscribed. As a result the Probus Club started a second Book Club, Chapter Too.
