Members have the opportunity to hear presentations by
interesting speakers at our monthly meetings. Suggestions for future speakers are always welcomed.
January Speaker
Sandy Gott,
co-founder, will speak about Ice River Springs and the company’s history and
impact in the community. In particular, how we were founded, how we have
grown, our employment figures and general information regarding other
positive impacts we have in the community. She will also discuss our water
taking permit and how this is monitored, as well as the bottled water
industry in general.
James Gott,
son of founder Jamie and Sandy, will speak about Ice River Springs and its
efforts to become more sustainable. This will include discussions on our
numerous green projects (solar, geothermal, transportation, packaging) and
the impact each has had on our organization. He will conclude by discussing
our newest venture, the construction of Canada’s largest plastic recycling
facility – the first of its kind worldwide to implement bottle-to-bottle (or
“closed-loop”) recycling
February Speaker
Patrick Gossage
Chair, MEDIA PROFILE
Patrick is one of
Canada’s most highly respected public relations practitioners. He draws on
40 years of experience in broadcasting, politics and communications,
including serving as the prime minister’s press secretary.
The title of his speech is
“Life’s Lessons Learned from Working for the Prime Minister”.
Patrick started his
career as a TV producer, then senior CRTC official. Following his
high-profile tenure as Press Secretary to Prime Minister Pierre Elliott
Trudeau, Patrick worked at the Canadian Embassy in Washington with
Ambassador Allan Gotlieb, where he orchestrated media and promotional
events. Returning to Canada in 1985, he founded Media Profile and published
his recollections of the Trudeau years in Close to the Charisma (McClelland
and Stewart, 1986).
Patrick was a regular
political panelist on CBC Newsworld’s “Politics” and has appeared on TVO,
BNN, CP24, CBC Television and Radio, and Canada AM. He has also written
columns and book reviews for the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Policy
Options, Tandem and Toronto Today..
Patrick is former Vice
Chairman of the McMichael Canadian Collection, is former Chair of Toronto’s
Heritage Preservation Committee and serves on the Development Committee of
the downtown social service agency, Dixon Hall. He served on both successful
campaign committees for Toronto Mayor David Miller. He is fluently
bilingual.
He is heavily involved
in community activities and is the member of Synod for All Saints Anglican
Church in King City. He was on the campaign committee for former Mayor
Margaret Black and Chaired the committee that mounted a successful three day
outdoor concert festival Kingfest in June 2007.
He is now semi-retired,
paints landscapes and makes twig furniture.
